March Calendar Journal Pages

Last month  I decided to start  a calendar style art journal and am so glad I did.  I loved being able to add bits to it each day to record the little things in our lives.   You can read more about the inspiration here.  This is a quick post to show my calendar journal page for March. I decided to add the dates as I journal each day.

Artful

My hands were itching to make something yesterday.  So I spent a bit of time in my craft room and made this little piece - Artful.

My favorite studio buddy joined me.

We both chose our supplies and followed the same steps of building up the layers.  Sadie applied her artistic flair and made this piece - Love.

Photoshop Fun- Round World

There are so many great Photoshop tutorials on the web.  I created this photo following a tutorial on http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com There is a very similar tutorial in the March/ April 2012 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors.

Cityscapes and landscapes look awesome when converted. However, since we spend so much time a the beach I decided to use this photo instead.
Have a great weekend.

Too Immature

Something you should know about me.

I think the people who know me really well would agree with this statement.

Just in case you were wondering.

Learn to Fly

This phrase can have so many meanings.
One day I will allow myself to be furiously happy.
One day I will allow myself to follow my dreams.
One day I will learn to do that one thing I really want to do.
One day I will reach a goal I set for myself.
One day I will be free of my burdens.
One day I will go somewhere I've only dreamed of going.
One day I will let it all go.

I'm not exactly sure which of these statements applies to my "One day I will learn how to fly".  It's a statement I think of often though.  It expresses a hopefulness that I can do something I have dreamed to do.  Maybe, each day that meaning will change. Or, not.
Maybe one day I will be flying and will think "Oh! This is it!"

A Quick Look-See

Last week I posted about our teacher appreciation gifts.
Here is a quick look at the rest of our cup cozies and gift card holders.

I remembered to snap a quick couple of photos before I sent them off to school with the kiddos.

Laying flat for the full effect.

Photo Fun- Capturing a Subject in a Dew Drop

We had ice on many of the plants this morning and I was taking photos with a macro attachment on my camera. When I noticed that the water drops were magnifying whatever was on the other side I had my daughter sit on the other side while I snapped some shots. Getting the focus just right was tricky.

It is best to shoot toward the light. I used a low aperture setting so that my subject in the background was blurred out.

Reusable Teacher Gifts

This coming week is Teacher Appreciation week at our school. Our teacher gifts are handmade coffee cozies.

The cozies wrap around a to-go coffee cup and are reusable.  (Remember we need to reduce, reuse, recycle -anytime I say that it is as if Jack Johnson is in my head singing it:).

Stiff, padded interfacing (to provide structure) is sandwiched between strips of batik fabric and a backing fabric.

The free motion stitching adds detail and  texture to the design.  That and the zig-zag stitching on the edges holds everything together.

This was the perfect reason to dig in  my button jars to find  buttons for the closures.  (Buttons are a good thing in my world.)

These tags will hang from the cozies so that they won't be confused with *really* big bracelets.

Starbucks gift cards round out the gift.   (I used to make and sell these gift card holders on Etsy.)  The removable  'pull me' tag gives a clue as to how to discover what is inside.

With a gentle pull of the ribbon the secret contents rise up from the holder! And, the holders are also reusable.

Art Journaling

For sometime, I have been drooling over art journals made by creative souls and posted in Flickr groups or on individual web pages. The freestyle creativity and expressiveness always leaves me in awe.   I've dabbled a bit in my own journal but am always intimidated because my drawing skills and hand-writing leave much to be desired.   Recently, I was inspired to create a calendar format art journal page after seeing this post on The Kathryn Wheel blog.   I was surprised how quickly I could put the pages together.

I began with a few stamped embellishments...

added color.....

  to both sides....

and then created the days and finished.  Now it is ready for a bit of daily journaling.  Small squares mean a small amount of hand-writing- perfect for me!

Have a Doggone Good Weekend!

Here's hoping you have a 'Murphy'- like weekend.
Laze in the sun,
chase a ball,
go for a walk,
enjoy some treats,
show your family unconditional love,
go for a ride in the car (you can decide  if you want to hang your head out the window),
and do anything else that makes you doggone happy!

Our Hawk

This red shouldered hawk is a frequent visitor to our yard.  He likes to perch in this tree by the pond behind our house.

Or we can hear him nearby, calling to his hawk friends. Once you hear their screech it becomes easy for you to identify.

One morning he perched on an eave of our house.  We were late for school that morning.  It's hard to drive away when he was clearly there to see us!

He brings out the naturalists in us and for that we are thankful.
